What is Kona Coffee?
Cultivated exclusively from the volcanic slopes of the Hualalai and Mauna Loa, nestled in the Kona District of the Big Island in Hawaii, Kona coffee beans are known the world over for their uniquely complex flavor profile that hangs delicately somewhere between rich and robust.
Our proprietary blend has been carefully crafted to produce a brew that starts strong with a vibrant burst of balanced flavor and tapers off with a smooth, unobtrusive finish.
Mellow enough for the meekest drinker with just the right amount of zing to please the black coffee, no sugar crowd, Victor Allen’s Kona coffee brings that distinct Big Island flavor straight to your favorite mug.
How is Kona Coffee Grown?
A unique, unparalleled environment paired with labor-intensive cultivation methods gives Kona coffee its remarkable flavor profile.
High up on the slopes in the Kona District, something special happens. Fertile, mineral-rich volcanic soil is consistently treated with sun-kissed mornings, gentle afternoon storms, and temperate evenings. This exceptional and reliable climate—unlike any other place on earth—provides Kona coffee plants with the ideal conditions to flourish.
When the plants are harvested, the carefully nurtured coffee cherry pulp is left to ferment, imparting the deep, complex notes that are later drawn out during the roasting process. The beans are set out in the Hawaiian sun to dry until they are ready to be sorted and sent off to us.
What Does Kona Coffee Taste Like?
Kona coffee is a relatively mild brew, smooth and delicately acidic with a bright, hearty center. Notes of chocolate sound in the distance while a slight suggestion of spice rounds out the sweetness to produce an intricate, balanced profile.
A pleasantly heady aroma, soft and fragrant, treats the nose as much as the palate, lingering just long enough in between sips. The resulting experience is bright but not sharp, and promises to coax the taste buds out of hibernation on those wintery mornings when what you need most is to be transported to the sun-soaked tropics.
From the ground to the roaster, Victor Allen’s Coffee Kona blend beans are thoughtfully processed to ensure the trademark brightness and clarity of genuine Kona coffee is preserved in every cup.
